Supporting Care Providers Across Wales

Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) regulates social care services across Wales and operates as a risk-based regulator responsible for protecting service users and maintaining standards of care.

Regulation in Wales has evolved significantly following the introduction of:

  • The Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016
  • The Regulated Services (Service Providers and Responsible Individuals) (Wales) Regulations 2017

The introduction of service ratings has also significantly changed how providers are assessed.

At Gordons Partnership, our Health and Social Care team, led by Neil Grant, has extensive experience advising providers across Wales.

How We Support Providers

CIW Registration

Providers must obtain CIW registration before operating lawfully. We assist providers applying for registration or expanding their services.

CIW Inspections

Registered services are inspected regularly. We support providers through the inspection process and assist in responding to draft reports and review-stage findings.

CIW Compliance

We work with providers to address compliance concerns and regulatory issues, often alongside specialist Welsh care consultants.

Where allegations of regulatory breaches are unsupported by the evidence, we assist providers in challenging CIW decisions.

CIW Enforcement

CIW has enforcement powers including prosecution and cancellation of registration. We represent providers facing regulatory action and seek to resolve matters efficiently.
